Rohit founded the firm in 1987 under the style of Chawla Sanghvi Patel, subsequently re-styling it to R R Sanghvi & Co. He specialises in cases which throw up exceptional legal challenges at the frontiers of the law, developing persuasive arguments for the benefit of his clients. He has delivered lectures at a large number of British universities, in connection with his work and the critical analysis of the law and principles of public importance.
A significant part of Rohit's work is carried out on a pro bono basis, and has been throughout his career.
In a private interview in 1994, he had this to say in connection with his work:
'Legal practice involves the resolution of disputes between people in strife.
The best practice of the law is the practice of the technique of persuasion, the ability, without coercion, to bend men and women to your point of view. If you practice law merely at the level of implementing or following a set of rules, you will certainly be a lawyer, and may even be a good one; but if you practice law to persuade people, and succeed, you will be, as a great American lawyer once said, a social engineer of the best possible kind.’
